HCS Voices is the community choir of Huddersfield Choral Society (HCS) and sits alongside the HCS and Youth Choirs. It was formed in 2019 to act as both a community choir and a route into membership of HCS. In these six years, it has grown to around 70 members, rehearsing weekly during term-time. It welcomes people of all musical abilities and experience, including some who do not read music - there are no auditions and anyone over 18 can join. Members come from Huddersfield and the wider surrounding area.
The choir sings a mixture of secular and sacred songs from around the world, including world music, folk and popular songs and musicals, as well as works by Anglea, Chilcott, Lauridsen, Quartel and others. HCS Voices performs a minimum of three concerts each year on its own and with other groups, including appearances with HCS. Previous collaborations have included: performing with Black Dyke Band at the HCS Christmas Concert, and with His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts in HCS’ performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers. The choir also performs at other events, eg, charity fund raisers and local festivals.
