Cheltenham Choral Society seeks a Musical Director
Starting date mid-November 2023 or could be delayed to January 2024 for the right candidate
Cheltenham Choral Society (CCS) has recently celebrated its 85th Anniversary. We are seeking an accomplished and established Musical Director to direct and train the choir from mid-November 2023 or, for the right candidate we can delay the start of the appointment until January 2024 if required. The role offers the opportunity to prepare the choir for an exciting repertoire of concerts and to work with the CCS Committee to develop the future direction of the Society.

CCS is a non-audition choir of around 70 members performing public concerts to a high standard. The concert programme is drawn mainly from both the classical and modern choral repertoire. Rehearsals are accompanied by piano, whilst performances are often supported by chamber orchestra or organ.

We rehearse on Wednesdays from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at St Andrews United Reformed Church, Montpellier Street, Cheltenham GL50 1SP
for around 39 weeks each year, broadly in line with academic terms: we meet in half-term weeks. We typically perform three or four public concerts a year including a Christmas carol concert, in venues around Cheltenham, along with visits to a Cathedral for lunchtime recitals, and other occasional events.

You will be a professional musician, with appropriate qualifications, and experience of conducting a mixed voice choir, and an orchestra. Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and enthusiasm are required, as is the skill to motivate and develop amateur singers of mixed ability.

Remuneration and fees are commensurate with experience and expertise and guided by recommendations made by Making Music and the musicians’ unions.
