Corporate member VIMA tell us about the incredible learning opportunity they have on offer for young music-makers.
VIMA (Virtuoso International Music Academy) is an immersive seven-day opportunity for students to come together and learn with world class professionals and like-minded students. As well as exceptional musical training, the students also have a great time socially, enjoying the sports and social facilities of historic Winchester College and experiencing boarding life in the UK's oldest school.
It's aimed at students ages 10-18 and is for any students who are grade 5 standard on any instrument or voice (i.e. can read music well).
The course is led by choirmaster and TV personality Gareth Malone OBE with a faculty including Swingle Singer Imogen Parry, National Youth Choir conductor Laurel Neighbour and composer and pianist Harry Baker. Students will tackle a range of vocal styles from classical and close harmony to pop, as well as working with the VIMA String Orchestra. Each day will feature games, creative work, vocal technique exercises, guided rehearsals and ensemble practice. It’s a brilliant opportunity for students to work in small and larger groups, with the less advanced singers gaining a firm grounding in vocal technique and the more advanced students honing their skills with experts in the music business.
VIMA will be running two residential courses between 3-9 August 2025.
