Your chance to talk about music education: full review of the curriculum in England

The Department for Education calls for evidence as it reviews the current schools curriculum in England — your chance to advocate for music in schools.

This is the biggest review of the educational curriculum for ages 5-19 in England in quarter of a century — looking at content assessment methods, and how fit for purpose current education pathways are for the future of young people.

For the first time in my time at Making Music there is a real opportunity here to make the case for music education for under-19s and be heard, whatever your stake in the education system (you are at the very least a member of the public - see below).

So do share this information widely, including re-sharing from Making Music’s social media platforms.

The review wants to hear from:

  • Children and young people
  • Parents and carers
  • Teachers, lecturers, teaching assistants and the wider education workforce
  • Senior leaders of schools, multi-academy trusts and colleges
  • Further and higher education providers
  • Sector organisations and unions
  • Arms’ Length Bodies
  • Expert organisations, voluntary and community organisations and charities
  • Researchers and education experts
  • Subject associations
  • Careers professionals
  • Awarding organisations
  • Employers and employer representative bodies
  • Local authorities
  • The wider public

Deadline is Friday 22 November

Making Music members will receive an email in the week commencing 28 October with more information including which questions (if you are short of time) are the ones where music education can be referenced most helpfully or appropriately; and relevant research and data which may be useful to talk about or include in your submission.
