We are an SATB choir founded in 1976 and performing, typically, Spring and Autumn concerts from the classical choral repertoire, a Summer concert mainly of lighter music and a Christmas concert.
The choir frequently hold open evenings and we organise ‘Come-and-Sing’ events to encourage new membership. We are keen to promote music students from schools and colleges, particularly locally, and to offer regular opportunities for solo performance.
Currently we number around 40 members, all experienced singers. All have sight reading ability at levels ranging from average to fully competent. We rehearse on Tuesday nights for two hours from 7.30pm at a venue in the Bradford suburb of Shipley, over periods roughly coinciding with school terms.
We have a Deputy MD who is a singing member of the choir, who deputises when the need arises and who leads non-concert activities such as special carol-singing events, Our highly accomplished accompanist occasionally offers solo performances at concerts. We encourage collaboration with other local choirs particularly when performing works requiring larger choral forces.
We welcome applications from ambitious and creative musicians. We are looking for an enthusiastic professional musician with relevant experience of working with choirs and of conducting concerts with and without an orchestra, with wide knowledge of the choral repertoire and who enjoys working with amateur singers.
The Musical Director will be responsible to and supported by the choir committee. The MD will plan programmes in consultation with the committee and its music sub-committee.
The post is a paid position with negotiable remuneration and expenses.
