Ross Penyard Singers is an enthusiaistic group of amateur SATB singers who meet weekly during term time in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire. Membership does not require an audition.
Applications are invited for the post of Musical Director commencing September 2023. We are seeking a talented and committed Conductor/Musical Director with a good sense of humour who will challenge and inspire us. This is a paid position.
You will be someone who :
- Is able to teach music effectively to a mixed group catering for the non-reader as well as the more capable, ideally developing reading skills and musicianship
- Is able to conduct the choir in an engaging way and knows how to work effectively and collaboratively with our brilliant accompanist
- Is able to make interesting and suitable repertoire choices within the choir's budget
- Knows about the voice and is able to support the choir in improving their sound
- Is able to provide rehearsal aids for the choir to use when preparing for a concert
- Is able to attend committee meetings when necessary to provide advice
-An added advantage would be an ability to arrange music for the choir.
Rehearsals are on a Wednesday evening from 7.00pm to 9.00pm at St Mary's Church Hall , Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.
The choir gives two concerts per year- the December concert is usually classical while the May concert is usually lighter in style and might cover folk songs, pop/rock songs and songs from popular films or musical theatre.
The choir currently has 33 members and has a committee to facilitate the organisation of the choir. The committee usually meets at least twice a term.
