Musical Director

Newstead Abbey singers are looking for a new Musical Director.

NAS was founded in the 1960s and is a friendly, close-knit group, of around 15 very experienced choral singers, from Nottinghamshire and North Leicestershire. We sing a wide range of mainly a capella music, both sacred and secular and we enjoy performing compositions and arrangements by local composers or friends of the choir.

Most concerts are given, by invitation, in village churches and halls, and we perform a Christmas concert each year at Newstead Abbey

The successful applicant for this post would be expected to run rehearsals (currently weekly); to determine the programmes for concerts and be part of the choir’s management committee. They will be appointed on a self-employed basis with appropriate remuneration.

The key requirements for the post are: 

• Experience of choral and concert direction. 
• A wide knowledge of both traditional and modern vocal repertoire suitable for a small ensemble. 
• An inspiring, engaging and enthusiastic personality, as well as diplomacy and a sense of humour. 
• Experience and knowledge of vocal techniques which will help develop choir members’ singing abilities
