We are looking for a vibrant, friendly and creative conductor to fill our podium! At the Central London Orchestra, we have a 2 year conductor posting from September 2022, suitable for an up-and-coming conductor who is looking to learn and grow with us. We are actively seeking and encouraging applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
We are a fun amateur orchestra that exists purely for our members' enjoyment, and have been in existence since 2015. We are based in The City with rehearsals near St Paul's. Please visit our website for more information - www.centrallondonorchestra.com.
We play three terms a year: 10-12 rehearsals and 1 concert per term (rehearsals are held Thursdays, 19:30-21:30). Concerts are typically held in March, June and December. We will pay the successful candidate £100 per rehearsal and a £200 management fee per term.
Your responsibilities beyond conducting to a high standard will include assisting in selecting appropriate repertoire for future terms, writing programme notes, setting a rehearsal schedule and providing insight on orchestra seating. As a relatively young orchestra, we are also always open to new ideas and suggestions.
The application process will include three stages:
1. Applications assessed by the orchestra committee (unfortunately we won’t be able to provide feedback to those applicants who are not invited for an interview).
2. Suitable applicants will be invited for an informal, 10 minute chat with the committee on Zoom, during the week commencing 14 February 2022.
3. Selected applicants will be invited for an audition on Saturday, 5 March 2022. You must be available on this date in order for your application to be considered. You will conduct the orchestra for 20 minutes at St Giles Cripplegate. Repertoire will be Beethoven 8 first movement.
To apply for the role, please fill in this application form.
