Making Music took no stance on Brexit prior to the referendum, nor afterwards. Our members, and their members, come from all areas of the UK, from all walks of life, from all kinds of professional and social backgrounds, and therefore will have voted, most likely, in line with the overall UK result.

It is not Making Music’s business to take a political view, but it is our business to make sure that the outcome of this vote does not have a negative impact on the leisure-time music sector, and that it continues to have the best possible environment to flourish.

One more month to contribute to a fantastic research project currently underway: the Live Music Census. In six cities across the UK, researchers were out and about on 9 and 10 March, finding out about live music events over 24 hours.

But most likely that didn’t capture you – so you can take part online instead: there are four different surveys, for audiences, performers, venues and promoters, and you could win an iPad.

Making Music is looking for new Board members and any member of a full member group can stand by filling in this form, and asking two members of their group to support them.

The deadline for nominations by post or email is Monday 22 May.

This international celebration is about everyone making music for everyone, opening up their musical doors and showcasing all the fantastic music going on in your communities.

So: there’s still time to sign up as a venue, or as a performer – individual, small group, large group – or of course to find an event near you to attend or take part in.

At the start of our rehearsal, our adopted composer, Adriano Adewale, pointed out that we were midway through the Adopt a Composer process - between Adriano first meeting the orchestra at the workshop back in December to the premiere scheduled for the first of July.

For those who were unable to join us at our 'Festival of Making Music' in Perthshire last October, we are delighted to be able to offer Scottish members and guests another opportunity to join award-winning educator Professor Richard Michael BEM for a day of creative music-making in Inverness.

Supported by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland, the Highlands 'Day of Making Music' will take place on Saturday 13 May 2017.

Monday 20 March saw 36 delegates representing music education hubs, schools, music services, professional orchestras, and independent youth ensembles come together for a day in Birmingham.
