Musical Director

Yateley Choral Society, an established 50-strong mixed voice, friendly, community-based choir on the Hampshire/Berkshire/Surrey borders, are seeking a new Musical Director. We are looking for an outstanding choral musician from September 2022 to build on the achievements we have enjoyed under our present MD, Quintin Beer, who is moving on as his career progresses.

We perform 3 main concerts a year in the Yateley area with professional accompaniment, in addition to a range of Christmas activities. Our Autumn and Spring concerts centre around mainstream choral works, with our summer concert offering a lighter programme. We rehearse in Yateley on Monday evenings with a professional accompanist and are a keen, friendly and welcoming choir with a caring ethos. This has been apparent through our MD and members’ support for the choir and each other since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Our aims are to provide the opportunity for all to experience the joy of choral singing; to continue to improve performance standards within the framework of an amateur unauditioned choir; to engage with the local community and to support local charities wherever possible – and most importantly to have fun!

We are seeking a Musical Director who:

• Will be an inspirational, enthusiastic and encouraging leader with strong communication skills and a good sense of humour!
• Has the ability and patience to convey musical requirements and expectations clearly and in a sensitive way so that choir members of all abilities can flourish
• Is able to set and achieve high standards of vocal performance from the choir’s particular skill base
• Is a choral conductor with good experience of orchestral, ensemble and choral extra combinations – both professional and amateur
• Has experience of presenting attractive classical and popular concert programmes to suit both choir and audience
• Has a range of contacts within the music profession
• Is able and willing to engage with and give full support to the choir at rehearsals and concerts, social events and committee meetings
