The St. David’s Singers is looking to appoint a new Musical Director to succeed Mark Perry who has directed the choir for 30 years and is retiring at Christmas. The choir comprises approximately 30 adult members who are all experienced singers performing classical and contemporary music, sometimes challenging, from both well-known and new composers, mostly unaccompanied. In addition to around six local concerts per year, the choir usually participates in two away trips to cathedrals each year to sing the weekend services during the resident choirs’ holiday periods.
The choir rehearses on Monday evenings (approximately 40 weeks per year) at Clyst St. Mary (on the eastern fringe of Exeter). The choir has an extensive music library but is open to acquiring new music.
For the first time in its history, the choir anticipates providing remuneration to the new Musical Director in the region of £2,400 to £3,000 per annum as an all-inclusive fee, payable in termly instalments.
Short listed candidates will be asked to attend a rehearsal of the choir early in September and spend 20-30 minutes rehearsing a piece of music with them. Ideally, the appointee will be able to take over the choir from January 2025 but, for the right person, it may be possible to delay the start date until April.
