Applications are invited for the post of Musical Director for Reigate & Redhill Choral Society (RRCS), starting in January 2025. Established in 1941, we are an ambitious choir open to all ages without formal audition, currently comprising around 90 members across all voice-parts. RRCS has an impressive history of programming concerts incorporating a diverse range of works, from the most popular classics to a selection of contemporary music by British composers, often performed with professional soloists and orchestra. Whilst based in Surrey, we also sing in festivals and on tour in the UK as well as on the Continent.
We rehearse on Tuesday evenings (RH1 6AU) and have a strong community culture, which we maintained throughout the challenges presented by the pandemic and subsequent restoration of activities. Our members are hard-working and friendly, with a good sense of humour, and whilst the choir is run by its Board of Trustees and Operations Committee (which together form the Management Committee), many others hold key roles in delivering our concerts and social events.
Our criteria for the successful candidate are:
- the ability to engage with members of all abilities, encouraging good vocal health and stamina
- the expertise to advise and assist with the artistic direction of the choir, including devising a suitable programme of events
- the experience to oversee the engagement and auditioning of soloists and instrumentalists where appropriate
- the skills and personality to inspire confidence when organising and conducting concerts with professional soloists and organ/keyboard or orchestra
- a track-record which will attract new members and audiences
- a willingness to foster community spirit within the choir
- the enthusiasm and motivation to work supportively with the Management Committee
Requests for further information can be sent to chair@rrcs.org.uk; applications should include a CV together with a covering letter and details of two referees, and be submitted by Monday 16th September 2024. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview and audition in October 2024.
