The Oriel Singers in Liverpool are looking for a new Musical Director with experience in directing a choral group and conducting to start the Spring term 2024 (January 2024). The successful candidate will be highly motivated in programme creation and willing to work with and develop a wide range of musical abilities. The director must have sufficient keyboard skills to support the choir during rehearsals as we do not have a regular accompanist for rehearsals. Remuneration is within Making Music's average ranges, with rehearsal and concert fees paid.
Our choir has approximately 30 singers, and we rehearse for 2 hours on Tuesday evenings between 7 and 9 pm, in central Liverpool following school terms. We organise and perform 4 to 7 concerts a year including some carol singing to increase the visibility of the choir. The choir is non-audition, with voice tests if required, however, all members are able to read music.
The choir is used to tackling a wide variety of choral works including standards such as Faure’s Requiem, Brahm’s Requiem, and Britten’s ‘Hymn to St Cecilia’ and occasionally more challenging works like Copland’s ‘In the Beginning’. We also enjoy singing a range of shorter pieces from traditional composers all the way to the Beatles, in a range of languages including Latin, French, German, Russian, and English. Soloists are regularly sourced from within the choir parts. The choir has experience of singing acapella or performing with organ and piano, and occasionally with other instruments as money affords.
Candidates will be contacted by 15th November for interviews to be held the week beginning 20th November followed by a choir audition by the beginning of December.
