Musical Director/Conductor

The band has happily had an excellent Musical Director/ Conductor for over 20 years. With his retirement the band sees the opportunity for appointing a new, dynamic Musical Director/Conductor who will build on the joyful legacy of the past and lead the band forward to new achievements.

Briefly, the band currently consists of around 40 members covering the usual woodwind and brass sections, with limited percussion support. Membership is currently not by audition, although a level of proficiency broadly equivalent to at least grade 4 is recommended, the balance of the band being taken into account. Consequently, there is a range of musical skills up to those who are instrumental teachers. Many band members are long-standing, typically with professional backgrounds, currently ranging in age from early 20’s to near dotage. The band has not been involved in competitions in recent years. It is supported by Mold Town Council which requires it to lead the parade on Remembrance Sunday, but is not a ‘marching band’. It is also called on to play for the turning on of the Christmas Lights and usually for the opening of the Mold Food Festival. Other performances vary according to opportunities that are available.
