The Malmesbury Singers based in North Wiltshire is looking to appoint a new Musical Director ideally starting from beginning of September 2023, as Iain Duffin our current MD is retiring after happily leading us for over 30 years.
We are a friendly and enthusiastic mixed voiced ‘semi-auditioned’ choir of 60-70 members. The inspiring setting of Malmesbury Abbey is our venue for both rehearsals [Monday evenings 7.30pm- 9.15pm] and performances [two major concerts a year around Easter and Christmas]. Our concert programme includes choral works such as Dvorak ‘Stabat Mater’, Handel ‘Samson’, Bach ‘St John Passion’, Brahms, Verdi, Mozart ‘Requiems’, accompanied by a professional orchestra/ensemble and soloists, to contemporary compositions by Rutter, Chilcott, Goodall etc. In addition we have informal singing sessions of lighter pieces in early summer just for fun. The choir has hosted a number of choral workshops over the years with leading figures such as Nigel Perrin, Fiona Evans and most recently with Bob Chilcott.
The successful candidate will have proven experience of mixed voice choral and orchestral direction, will be inspiring, will have a knowledge and love of a wide range of choral music as well as a track record of putting on engaging concerts including professional soloists and instrumentalists.
The closing date for applications: 20 February 2023.
