Musical Director

General

We need a new MD to start in September and lead us in rehearsing and performing for 3 concerts per year and occasional other ad hoc performances.  In addition to the choir, concerts are generally accompanied by an orchestra or smaller groups or ensembles and soloists, usually sourced by the MD.  Every second or third year a subset of volunteers from the choir has toured in Europe, where we usually give 2 concerts.  We rehearse on Tuesday evenings in All Saints School Fleet. This is a self-employed, remunerated position. We need a new, enthusiastic musical director to lead us who can broaden our repertoire and enjoyment of choral works.

Principal Duties

• develop members’ singing technique, musical knowledge and ability
• prepare the choir for concerts, conducting both rehearsals and concerts
• advise and assist the committee in planning concerts two years in advance
• source soloists and accompanying musicians as required

Qualities

• excellent musicianship with established direction experience
• positive communication skills to enthuse and instruct the choir
• clear direction to a choir of very mixed musical knowledge
• good organisational skills to assemble and rehearse necessary accompanying musicians within a budget
