Churchdown Choral Society is looking for a talented and motivational Musical Director to lead and inspire us from September 2022.
We are a non-audition and friendly SATB choir, currently around 40 singers, of varied ages and mixed abilities. We meet on Thursday evenings from 7:30pm to 9:30pm during term time at Parton Manor Junior school in Churchdown, Gloucestershire.
The choral society was founded almost 38 years ago and have enjoyed rehearsing and performing music in and around Churchdown. We usually hold concerts 3 times a year, at Christmas, Easter and Summer. Our Easter concert is traditionally where we showcase a major choral work, often with an orchestra or similar instrumental accompaniment. Our Summer concerts are a lighter affair, where we often sing songs from the shows, folk or traditional music. Our Christmas concerts are a bit more of a mixed bag and can range from seasonal choral works to a traditional carol concert.
The right candidate will:
- demonstrate leadership, enthusiasm, confidence and sense of humour to motivate choral members to produce their best sounds and have fun doing so
- possess the skills required to maintain and develop the choir
- enable us to improve our performance
- help us grow our numbers
- support the group’s sense of community and enjoyment of music-making
- with the committee, plan and budget concert programmes
- direct regular rehearsals and conduct and introduce the choir, and other musicians, at concerts
- engage soloists, orchestras, accompanists (we have a current accompanist) and any stand in accompanists
- attend planning and other meetings, ex-officio, as required
The appointment will be from September 2022 and comes with a honorarium (c£1800pa).
