Belfast Philharmonic Society

The Belfast Philharmonic Choir, led by music director Stephen Doughty, is Northern Ireland's only symphonic choir. The 120+ strong choir performs at least four programmes per year, many alongside the Ulster Orchestra, including performances of Handel's Messiah every Christmas - a tradition that goes back as far as 1886!

Founded in 2006 with support from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Phil Kids and Phil Youth Choirs are unique choirs for young singers in Northern Ireland, led by Artistic Director Lynsey Callaghan. Young people have the opportunity to sing weekly with a highly trained group, combining singing with games and musicianship training. There are four choirs, ranging in age from 7 to 22 years old. The Chamber Choir also regularly sings and performs with Dublin Youth Chamber Choir as the Cross Border Youth Choir.

The adult choir meets at 7.30 pm each Wednesday at St Bride's Hall, 38 Derryvolgie Avenue, Belfast, BT9 6FP. Belfast Philharmonic Choir is always on the look out for new Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses and we recruit each season in September and in January. All members go through an audition process and existing members are reauditioned every two years - we hold open rehearsals before audition weeks to introduce the music. Phil Kids and Youth Choirs meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in termtime and usually recruit the spring before the next school year. More information is available on our website.
