Bristol Metropolitan Orchestra
The Orchestra welcomes Samara Ginsberg as soloist in the first cello concerto, written by Shostakovich for his friend Mstislav Rostropovich and widely considered to be one of the most difficult pieces in the repertoire for the instrument, The concert finishes with Rimsky-Korsakov's first symphony, his first mature symphonic work, written whilst the composer was on naval service. The Orchestra will also perform the world premiere of Ataraxia commissioned from David Ridley, an exciting young composer and musical director with roots in Bristol.
