Chantry Singers are busy exploring and enjoying the detail of the Renaissance music compiled by our new conductor Peter Hicks for our upcoming concert. This is a celebration of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Palestrina, one of the most famous composers of the Renaissance period in music. At the centre of the concert is his beautiful Missa Ave Regina Coelorum. We are interspersing the movements of this mass with two of Palestrina’s shorter works and with other works by his contemporaries Byrd, Lobo, Parsons, Tallis and Victoria. All of this programme will be sung a capella. For non-musical folk this means “in the chapel” in Latin, and is appropriate for a concert to be performed in the beautiful St Nicolas Church on Bury Street in Guildford on Saturday 5th April.
This concert, entitled A Legacy’s Echo, will be Peter’s first concert with us and we would love the choir to be faced with a full house on the night. Tickets at £16 for adults, £2 for under 16’s, can be purchased from choir members, by calling the number on the attached poster, by scanning the QR code on the poster or by clicking on the link below.
