Come and join us for an inspiring workshop singing this masterpiece of early Baroque music. We'll dive into the intricate polyphony, dynamic rhythms and rich harmonies of Monteverdi's innovative score. With direction from Howard Ionascu and Kirsty Hopkins, we'll explore vocal techniques unique to this work, bringing out its powerful contratys and vibrant character. This is a wonderfully uplifting way to spend a February Saturday engaging with one of choral music's greatest treasures.
We are delighted to be joined by Kirsty Hopkins, renowned soprano of The Sixteen and a versatile soloist who has performed all over the world. She is an exceptional vocal coach known for her warm, engaging approach and technical expertise. Kirsty will help us take on the vocal challenges of the Monteverdi, blending her deep musical knowledge with clear guidance.
Howard Ionascu is an inspiring conductor who has just taken over direction of Twickenham Choral. He has a reputation for achieving high standards while creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere. Previously a vicar choral at Wells Cathedral, Director of the Junior Royal Academy of Music and conductor of Bournemouth Sinfonietta, amongst many other conducting roles, he is known for his keen musical insight and looks to bring out the best in each singer. The choir is enjoying Howard's passion and his vibrant and expressive vocal direction.
