Join us on Saturday 19th October, to hear The English Arts Chorale together with a delightful group of four young aspiring professional solo singers perform music by Haydn and Mozart.
You will hear the only major composition by Haydn or Mozart that was not written in the Eighteenth Century, Haydn’s last Mass setting, known as the “Harmoniemesse”, which dates from 1801. (To give context to that date, Beethoven was then 31, had written his first symphony and was working on his second.)
As well as Haydn’s Harmoniemesse, we will perform the famous “Vespers” by Mozart (“Vesperae Solennes de Confessore”, K.339), which is a set of six pieces, five of them having text from the book of Psalms, and the sixth being the Magnificat.
There’s a bonus, too. If you’re an Inspector Morse fan, your imagination will be taken straight back to the Oxford of the curmudgeonly Chief Inspector when you hear the Laudate Dominum from the Vespers, a beyond-exquisite solo for soprano and choir.
Do join us for a feast of Haydn and Mozart.
