A Sea Symphony : Ralph Vaughan Williams

Following the 150th Anniversary celebrations in 2022 of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ birth this concert features three of his well-known works. Our main offering will be A Sea Symphony – a compelling work, in which a choir is used throughout and is an integral part of the musical texture. The text comes from American poet Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass.

The programme includes The Lark Ascending – a popular evocative well-known single movement work with solo violin played by leader of the orchestra Christian Halstead. Also featured will be Five Mystical Songs – a showcase for baritone solo and piano.

We are pleased to be welcoming back Kent Sinfonia and soloists Eleanor Pennell-Briggs (soprano), Philip Tebb (baritone) and our own Stephen Ridge (piano). Conducted by Musical Director Andrew Storey.
