Make Music Day is an annual global celebration that brings communities together. Discover events across the four nations at Making Music and get your music groups involved!
There’s a lot going on this 21 June or Make Music Day as it’s also known.
This internationally celebrated day sees thousands of people across more than 125 countries perform on the longest (or shortest) day of the year.
Anyone can take part, old, young, professional, proficient, beginner, instrumentalist, singer – it is about highlighting and showcasing all kinds of music and musicians.
There are literally only three rules to taking part:
- It’s got to be on 21 June! (or if pre-filmed, premiere on that day online)
- It’s got to be music!
- It’s got to be free to participants and audiences!
You can also badge existing events, if they fit those three rules.
Submit your event to feature on the UK map!
Ideally, you perform outdoors or in a public space – taking music to where people already are during their day, whether that’s a train station or a town square, inspiring and enthusing perhaps new participants or audiences.
Making Music always celebrates Make Music Day in all four nations. This year in Scotland, we’re supporting We Make Music Instrument Libraries to connect with community musicians who’ll perform in public libraries across the country. In Belfast, our NI Manager Stephen has worked with the Linen Quarter Business Improvement District to make available a number of (well oversubscribed) performance spots; and in Wales, our manager Miranda has secured a slot in the Senedd, the Welsh parliament, for a number of groups to perform.
For England this year, our President Debbie Wiseman OBE has gifted an arrangement for wind band of one of her pieces, to be performed by the Big Summer Wind Orchestra and Choir from 6:30pm near Tower Bridge in London. Anyone (well, who can sing or play a wind instrument…) can sign up, or of course come and listen!
And naturally it wouldn’t be Make Music Day UK without a bright orange T-shirt – buy yours before 3 June.
