Mike Woodward, director of Opera Anywhere, talks us through what his company can do for leisure-time music groups.
Opera Anywhere is a professional opera company touring the UK with the aim of promoting and performing collaborative, accessible, staged productions.
We started in the early 2000s by performing various Gilbert and Sullivan productions alongside our local choral society and semi-professional orchestras. We have since added Mozart, Puccini and Engelbert Humperdinck operas to our regular repertoire. In addition to performing in churches, village halls, schools and theatres, we specialise in outdoor performances.
The Gilbert and Sullivan productions have been a great success in particular, for which we have worked with choirs from as large as 300 to as small as 20. For a combined, fully-staged performance of The Mikado, we had the 300-piece Gurt Lush choir and a 90-piece youth orchestra joining them. Watch this collaboration on YouTube, as performed at the Colston Hall in Bristol.
Opera Anywhere provide the main production, including all the principal roles/characters costumed, plus staging. We can even provide various sizes of accompaniment, whether it be a piano, a flautist or, where space allows, percussion. So whether you have a small or large choir, small or large orchestra, we’re keen to talk to you about presenting and promoting an opera performance together.
