Musical Director

We are a SATB choir of around 20 members meeting every Wednesday evening 7.30pm – 9.30pm in Arlesey, a small town on the Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire border.  Working to the school term dates for Bedfordshire, we rehearse in a small hall within the Elmitt Piano Academy in the town.   We present 3 concerts per year, Advent/Christmas, Easter and Summer, and we are supported by an excellent accompanist/organist. The choir’s repertoire encompasses a wide range of choral works from Oratorios and Masses to some more modern pieces and lighter works.  We also have a small music library. 

We are looking to appoint a new Musical Director to conduct our rehearsals and concerts and to provide musical leadership to develop our repertoire and singers’ capabilities in an engaging and enjoyable way.  The post of MD is available from Jan 2020 when the current post holder retires

Closing date for applications is 23rd Sept 2019.  Applicants should submit a CV and a covering letter containing 2 professional referees and an outline of a programme for a year, i.e. three concerts.  Applications should be sent to the Secretary, details below.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to prepare an audition maximum 40mins consisting of a short warmup, a piece of the candidate’s choice, and from Faure Requiem, Angus Dei, Section E (Lux aeterna..) to the end of the Angus Dei.  The choir have performed the requiem recently and are familiar with it.  There will also be an interview.  It is planned that this will take place on the evening of 16th October.
