The Uckfield Community Orchestra is a group of enthusiastic amateur musicians who get together once a week to play music in a relaxed supportive atmosphere. The Orchestra is made up of young people and adults who play up to around Grade 5 standard, most of whom are currently Grade 3 or above. We welcome instrumentalists from age 8. We have a broad library of music which challenges all players to improve their level of playing. The choice of music is made by the Musical Director in discussion with members of the committee.
The Orchestra rehearses on Wednesdays during term time in Uckfield and tries to give two concerts a year. We are also very community focused and are happy to contribute to local events, for instance playing at events to support local charities.
Applicants should, ideally, have some previous training and experience as a conductor, but we would be happy to consider anyone with a sound musical knowledge who is just starting out. We are looking for a person who is musically competent, encouraging, and ambitious to help the group move forward musically.
Remuneration for the Musical Director is £150 per half term (to include expenses)
