Baritones

Vacancy Type:
Application deadline:
Tuesday, 31 October 2017
Description of vacancy:

Southend Vox was established in 2009 and since then has become a pivotal part of the Southend Community. They have performed their varied repertoire (including pop classics, rock songs, songs from popular musicals through to more traditional choral pieces) throughout the county and further afield at venues such as the Guinness Storehouse, Dublin and Union Chapel, London.

In that time, the number of men in the choir has ebbed and flowed, but in recent months’ this has proven a greater challenge for the choir, and now, they need YOU!

We asked a cross section of the community why they believe all men should join a choir, and here are the top 5 reasons!

1.      Live longer There are well documented scientific studies that show singing is great for your health, especially if that is part of a choir: it’s a stress-buster, helps with breathing problems, puts you in a good mood, reduces blood pressure, sharpens the brain, and much, much more.

2.      Let off steam What scope is there in everyday life to sing at the top of your voice without annoying everyone around you? Singing in a choir is a fantastic way to let off steam in a fun way - sing at the top of your lungs and let all your worries and frustrations go!

3.      Make new friends Being part of a choir is a wonderful social activity. There are plenty of opportunities to meet new people who have similar interests (our assistant Musical Director met her husband at choir!).

4.      Find your singing voice If you’ve not sung much before, being in a choir is a great way to explore your singing voice in a safe space without being put on the spot. You are part of a supportive group, until you find your voice and feel more confident.

5.      Become more attractive Women go weak at the knees when they hear men singing! You’ll be amazed at how attractive you become when you start singing. And other men will be seriously impressed by your manly voice – whether high or low – and will look on in envy and admiration (and wish they’d joined the choir too).

We’ve even been told that singing in a choir, can cure baldness!  Therefore, if you see any bald men in a choir, it’s because they didn’t join young enough (OK this one might be a stretch too far!).

So, if you want to come and join our lively, fun and friendly community choir, we would love to have you.  We rehearse every Wednesday during term time at St Laurence’s Church Hall in Eastwood (please note that google maps does not direct you to the correct place. If you are not sure where the hall is, please get in touch for more accurate directions!) from 7.30-9.30pm, and our first rehearsal back after the summer break is Wednesday 6th September but we take new members all year round. There are no scary auditions – all you need is enthusiasm. We hope to see you there.
