Key functions of role
- Organisation and maintenance of SLJO library
- Keep library in order to facilitate easy access
- Check music chart sets are complete and usable and in good condition
- Locate missing parts and liaise with SLJO conductor about transcription of any missing parts
- Source new charts (physical or PDF) as required by SLJO conductor and committee
- Keep library consumables (ie stationery) stocked.
- Maintain SLJO pads
- Regular checks and maintenance on usability and robustness of the pads, proactively and responding to band member feedback
- Produce sufficient copies of music for pads
- Insert new charts and remove old charts as required by conductor and committee
- Replace missing parts
- Move to digitise the SLJO library and the pads
Research and produce a proposal for the SLJO committee on how best to make use of digitising and digitally storing the existing and future stock of music to enable, amongst other things:

- Setting up a single electronic data storage system of our music
- Allowing members to access parts away from rehearsals, to allow practice and familiarity with the parts
- Easier ways of accessing the full library in rehearsals
- Better way of managing set lists and parts for performances
Key skills
Essential:
- Strong organisational ability
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision
- Reliability
- Flexibility to work around band requirements
- Attention to detail
Desirable:
- An understanding and appreciation of jazz music.
- Experience of maintaining music libraries
- Understanding of the requirements of big band arrangements
- Experience of arranging
- An awareness of copyright requirements (or willingness to quickly learn)
Pay
£11 per hour, paid upon the submission of a monthly invoice covering hours worked and expenses incurred.
Hours per week/month are likely to vary. Adding 3 new charts to the pads is likely to take 3-4 hours, for example, but there is no regularity to this. As a result, flexibility is required.
