We are looking for a reliable and skilled MD/choir leader to take over our mixed community choir of around 20 members to commence in March 2020.
Experience of community music leading and enthusiasm are more important to us than extensive experience of choral conducting. The choir is mainly taught by rote using lyric sheets with backing tracks mainly in unison with some two-part singing and a capella work. When part-singing it can be melody or harmony sung by choice. Songs are requested by members and/or sourced by the leader.
The choir is a friendly non-audition choir based in Castle Vale with rehearsals Thursdays from 5.30 pm until 7/30pm (with a break) for about 46 weeks (flexible) and concerts in the local area and Central Birmingham.
We are an established choir withy a mix of less experienced and more seasoned singers who enjoy singing in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Our genre is mainly pop songs such as Bad Moon Rising, Something Inside so Strong and One Moment One People.
Remuneration
This self-employed position currently has a negotiable rehearsal fee with reasonable travel expenses in addition to a fee for performances that may be negotiable (subject to external funding).
The successful candidate will have a probationary period of six months pending performance.
Specification
The person we are looking for will have:
- Experience of leading singing in a community setting
- Wide knowledge of repertoire in a variety of styles and be able to select appropriate songs
- Ability to challenge and develop choir and our performances in an enjoyable and productive way.
- A firm commitment to the choir, rehearsals, and performances
- Experience of working with a committee in order to achieve the best outcomes
