We are looking for singers to join or choir
We believe strongly in the power of music, and especially singing, to bring people together and provide memorable experiences and as such our music is pursued in an enjoyable and positive fashion. We have a soft spot for early music and many of our programmes feature repertoire from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
As an amateur chamber choir with high aspirations, we are aware of the commitment that is required to deliver high standards, that these standards are habitual and that the needs of the choir outweigh those of the individual. We are happy to prepare personally to ensure improvement and seek out other musicians to perform with and help us improve.
Recent highlights with the choir have included: Tallis 40 part motet Spem in Alium, Handel’s Dixit Dominus with the Tees Valley Youth Chamber Choir, Barber’s Agnus Dei, the choral version of his well-known Adagio for strings and Britten’s Hymn to St Cecilia and next we’re really looking forward to joining with Radio 3 “rising star of the classical guitar” Jonny Parkin for an evening with a strongly Spanish theme.
We rehearse on a Friday night in the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Norton from 7.15 - 9.30pm and perform at least 3 concerts per year. You are welcome to sing with the choir as a trial for up to 4 weeks, and at least one of these should be with our Musical Director, Sam Gardner present. If you’d like to join the choir following your trial Sam will do a small audition comprising of 1 prepared piece and a range test.
If you’d like to find out more about trying the choir, do let me know and I hope to be singing with you soon.
With best wishes,
