Charity Trustee & Company Director

Application deadline:
Friday, 25 October 2024
Description of vacancy:

Love Music is a socially engaged music inclusion and education charity which increases its participants’ musical skills, confidence and wellbeing through an exciting range of open-access projects. Our work brings communities and young people of any level of ability or experience together with professional musicians and educators, offering inclusive, fun, high quality opportunities. We strive to remove all barriers to participation, we actively seek to increase diversity within our work, and we offer additional access support wherever required. Our flagship singing project at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall supports 450 participants of all ages from across the city. We use our experience to envision, devise and deliver strategic work to support and develop the wider community music sector and those delivering its work, including providing training, resources, and collaboration opportunities to music leaders and teachers.

For further insight into our work please take a look around our website: https://lovemusic.org.uk

We are seeking a new Board member and the particular skills we would welcome include Strategic & Lobbying, and connections with, and knowledge of, the Scottish Artistic Sector. However, this is not an exclusive list.

We are also looking to diversify our Board and strongly encourage applications from individuals from a variety of different backgrounds. We take Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) very seriously and believe it is important that our Board reflects the diversity of our society and our project participants.

We have an EDI Champion on the Board and EDI is a standing item on the Board agenda where we monitor progress against our action plan in this area. We encourage new ideas for our action plan from all Board members.

We are able to accept applications from less experienced and/or younger people and will offer support to anyone joining through induction ahead of the first meeting, ongoing training, and a ‘buddy’ from the existing Board to guide anyone new through the processes and early meetings.

Board meetings are held every 3 months, currently a mix of in-person in Edinburgh and online, and Board members are committed supporters of our public concerts and events.

Please note, this is a voluntary role in which Board members are both directors of the company and trustees of the charity. Love Music can reimburse expenses to attend meetings and events.

Our outgoing trustee had this to say about her experience as a board member:

“Being on the Love Music Board has allowed me to engage in a space for professional development, to share views and collaborate with my fellow Board members in an environment of genuine respect and warmth, but most importantly to feel part of and able to contribute in some small part to the development of an organisation that is doing fantastically important work driven by a small team who are full of passion and expertise. It has been a formative and rewarding experience and one for which I am enormously grateful”.

If you are interested in applying, please send your CV and a covering email specifying why you are interested and what you would contribute to the organisation to Neil Weir, Chair: chair@lovemusic.org.uk. The closing date for applications is Friday 25th October 2024. If you would like to discuss this opportunity before applying, please contact Neil by email.
