Rehearsal accompanist

Hampstead Chamber Choir, an established auditioned SATB choir of approximately 38 singers, is looking for a rehearsal accompanist to start as soon as possible. The choir performs a varied repertoire ranging from a cappella polyphony, via classical and romantic masterworks, to music by contemporary composers. We are now rehearsing for our spring 2023 concert which will include 'Lauda Sion' by Mendelssohn.

The successful candidate will have experience of accompanying choirs and good sight-reading and score-reading skills, and should be available for regular attendance at weekly rehearsals on Wednesday evenings during term-times. Our current rehearsal venue is St John-at-Hampstead Parish Church, London NW3 6UU, close to Hampstead Station (Northern Line).

The accompanist works closely with our professional Musical Director Dominic Brennan, and is generally expected to attend around 35 rehearsals each year. Remuneration is on a self-employed basis, at a rate to be agreed, in the range of £70-90 per rehearsal. There may also be opportunities to perform as accompanist for concerts (with fees to be agreed), especially if the candidate also plays the organ to a professional standard.
