The Fellowship Singers of Shirley (FSS) is looking for a new Musical Director to start as soon as possible. The choir (formed in 1952) is seeking a friendly, supportive MD to continue to provide musical direction to this long-running group and to help attract new members.
The Fellowship Singers of Shirley is a fairly small community choir. The choir rehearses on a Sunday evening from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at St James' Church House, Church Road (just off the Stratford Road), Shirley, Solihull, West Midlands B90 2AX.
Members are of mixed musical ability and, although not all are able to read music, are used to singing in four-part harmony. The choir sings a variety of music including classical, pop, folk and musicals. Typically, it performs three concerts a year supporting local charities.
The successful applicant would have the support of one or two Assistant MDs and a capable committee. The MD attends committee meetings to advise on musical repertoire and concert preparation.
The choir is a registered charity, so its only income is through subscriptions and ticket sales. Hence this is more of a voluntary position (rather than fully paid) with a small annual honorarium of £800 a year paid quarterly.
If you are interested in this position, please forward your curriculum vitae to Laura Long, Choir Secretary via email to lauranatalielong@gmail.com. The closing date for applications is 14 November 2019.
