Description of vacancy:

31st July – 14th August 2017 Full-Time Residential On-Site

We need volunteers to help with an international Youth Exchange centred around musical activity, in a rural location in the UK for 2 weeks. In return we offer the unique and rewarding experience of being part of a highly-skilled team running a large and complex event, and the potential for further opportunities in future years. Meals, accommodation and travel expenses are provided.

80 participants aged 15 to 30 are coming from all over Europe to play in a youth orchestra together for 12 days, and we need support before, during and after the event. The Volunteer Event Crew team have a wide range of duties which could include anything from meet-and-greet at an airport, to running a tuck shop, carrying 4 timpani from a van into a church, making announcements in a language that you can speak, driving a minibus, running a sports activity, setting up staging and music stands, demonstrating your Ceilidh dancing expertise, selling programmes and stewarding at a concert, handing out packed lunches, carrying a contrabassoon across a field, counting people on and off a minibus while demonstrating your amazing linguistic skills etc. A music/performing arts background is preferred but not essential.

We value the importance of having this experience recognised, so we encourage and facilitate the use of the Youthpass Certificate (an internationally-recognised certificate for involvement in youth work) to record your experience.

You must be aged 19 or above to apply. Previous experience of team work, events or residential youth exchanges is required. We are particularly looking for people with one or more of the following attributes:

·         First Aid certificate

·         National Pool Lifeguard qualification

·         Driving licence with D1 category (most licences issued before 1997 have this)

·         Expertise in running social media campaigns

·         Ability to communicate in 2 or more European languages

Successful candidates will be subject to DBS checks as the role involves working with young people.
