Musical instrument insurance for musician groups - protect your gear with Making Music

Musical instruments and equipment are essential assets for musicians, whether you’re a member of a choir, band, orchestra, or other music group. Making Music offers comprehensive insurance specifically designed to protect the valuable items your group relies on, including instruments, sheet music, staging, and electronics. With our tailored coverage, you can focus on performing and rehearsing with confidence, knowing your group’s property is well-protected.

Why do you need insurance for musical instruments and equipment?

Musical instruments, staging, and equipment represent a substantial investment and are vulnerable to various risks. Here’s why insurance for these items is essential:

  • Accidental damage: Instruments, sheet music, and electronics are susceptible to accidental damage, whether during rehearsals, transport, or performances. Insurance helps cover repair or replacement costs, so unexpected damage doesn’t disrupt your music-making. Policy excess applies.
  • Theft protection: From rehearsal spaces to vehicles and venues, instruments and equipment can be targets for theft.  If the venue is secure, you will be covered if essential items are stolen, allowing you to resume your activities quickly. There must be visible signs of forcible entry to claim and there is a policy excess.
  • Travel coverage: Groups often travel with their instruments, staging, and electronics, increasing the risk of loss or damage. Instrument insurance covers your items on the go, both domestically and internationally, so your group is protected wherever you perform.
  • Peace of mind: Without insurance, replacing or repairing damaged or stolen equipment can place a financial strain on your group. Insurance gives you peace of mind, knowing your equipment is covered and allowing you to focus on making music.

For musicians, having musical instrument insurance is as essential as maintaining the instrument itself. Protecting your musical instruments and equipment is crucial, ensuring that unexpected issues don’t impact your group’s ability to perform or rehearse. Please make sure you read your policy documentation to ensure you are familiar with the full policy terms and conditions, which is available in our How to Get Covered section.

Instrument and equipment insurance for musicians: what’s covered by Making Music?

Making Music’s insurance offers broad coverage for your group’s instruments and equipment under the ‘Silver’ and ‘Gold’ plans. Coverage includes:

  • Group-owned and hired property: Our policies cover both property owned by your group and items hired or loaned, such as instruments, staging, electronics, and even sheet music. This provides complete protection, whether the items are owned or temporarily borrowed. Subject to policy excess.
  • Single article limit: For any hired or loaned equipment, our policies have a single article limit of £10,000 per item, with overall coverage caps based on the level selected (‘Silver’ or ‘Gold’), helping ensure that high-value items are safeguarded. Subject to policy excess.
  • New-for-old replacement: Coverage is provided on a new-for-old basis, meaning if equipment, sheet music, or instruments are damaged or lost, you’re covered for the cost of a modern replacement, minimizing financial impacts on your group. Subject to policy excess.

Please note that this insurance covers assets belonging to the group. Any items personally owned by individual members should be covered under their own personal insurance policies.
