Members briefing - the Arts Council England review survey

The Arts Council England review survey – Making Music briefing for members

The UK government has commissioned an independent review of Arts Council England (ACE), led by Baroness Margaret Hodge. The Review team are seeking the views of anyone with an interest in or a view about the operation of the Arts Council England, which could be a group that has received ACE funds or anyone with a view on how our part of the music sector is or should be supported by government.

Views are being collected by an online survey, and we urge any members with a view to complete it. Some questions apply only to groups who have applied for or received ACE funding in the past, but there are questions on future funding of the arts which anyone might have a view on and many questions with free text boxes. No questions are mandatory, so even if you only answer a couple of questions, you will be able to submit.

We’ve produced a briefing document for anyone who wants some more context on the questions. It provides a guide to the questions and categorises them, so that you can easily and quickly navigate to the ones you may wish to respond to. We’ve also included some links and possible topics to raise in the open questions about the future of arts funding, which are Making Music’s view on what would best support our members and leisure time music generally.

The survey closes on 24 April 2025. The report and recommendations are due to be published in Autumn 2025.
