Recommended Artists

A free-to-access database of specially selected professional performing artists, music creators and workshop leaders. Making Music members can claim a subsidy to book them.

Five figures with musical instruments stand before a search interface; one plays piano, another trumpet, bass, reads sheet music, and one stands without instrument, representing artist diversity.

Leisure-time music groups frequently hire professional artists to perform in their local communities, work with on music projects or to support their own group’s performances.

Making Music’s Recommended Artists Guide is a unique, free-to-access database of professional artists. We select them for their high performance standards, great engagement with their audiences and affordability for leisure-time music groups. Members of Making Music can book the artists at the listed rates or may be eligible to claim subsidies.

Artists range from performing solo artists and ensembles, music creators (composers) and workshop leaders, to our award-winning Philip & Dorothy Green Young Artists.

Welcome to the Recommended Artists database

Here you can find professional musicians and ensembles recommended by our team of volunteer listeners and Making Music member groups.

  • Find performers and ensembles using the search box and apply filters to help narrow down your search.
  • Each performer and ensemble has their own listings page with more information about them, their practice, repertoire, and contact details.
  • All artists have agreed to cap their fees for Making Music members. Members can see the agreed fee caps on the artist’s page. Please note that these fees do not include VAT or travel expenses.
  • Also listed are those artists in the Philip and Dorothy Green Young Artists (PDGYA) scheme. For these artists Making Music members can request a subsidy from Making Music towards booking fees. Details of PDGYA can be found on artists pages who are in the scheme.
