Serenissima - Venetian music in the polychoral style by Gabrieli, Schütz and Cozzolani

Whitehall Choir

Inspired by the huge space of St Mark's Venice, Venetian polychoral music of the late Renaissance/early Baroque period made use of the huge acoustic to have different groups of singers spatially separated to give new, exciting colours and drama. The German composer Heinrich Schütz studied with St Mark's organist, Giovanni Gabrieli, and may have later met Monteverdi on his second trip to Venice.

Whitehall Choir is excited to present a programme of thrilling, passionate and vibrant music by Gabrieli and Schütz as well as Isabella Leonarda, Chiara Margarita Cozzolani and Claudio Monteverdi.
