Trinity Orchestra
Trinity Orchestra
President: Owain Arwel Hughes CBE
Trinity Orchestra was founded in 1980 and rapidly became established as the foremost orchestra in the area, with exacting standards.
Membership is made up of professional musicians, music teachers, students and talented amateur players drawn mainly from the local area, highlighting Harrow’s wealth of talent. Each season the Orchestra performs a wide range of concerts at venues in and around Harrow, encompassing music from the 18th to the 21st century. Each concert is preceded by a popular free pre-concert talk, presented by the guest conductor, where audience members can find out more about the music and meet the performers.
In addition to many guest conductors Trinity Orchestra has worked with Paul Watkins, Michael Murray and John Andrews as Music Directors and with many famous soloists, including clarinettist Emma Johnson, horn player Michael Thompson and trumpeter Philip Cobb. In June 2011 the orchestra celebrated its 30th anniversary with a special concert which included a performance of Elgar’s Cello Concerto with distinguished cellist Paul Watkins, the orchestra’s President at the time, as soloist.
Michael Murray created several initiatives, including a new collaboration with the Royal College of Music in providing a platform for the world’s finest young musical talent to perform with the orchestra every year. John Andrews conducted 2 operas with the Orchestra, soloists and choirs.
In September 2024 the distinguished conductor Owain Arwel Hughes became the Orchestra’s President and has conducted us 3 times so far and will conduct at least one concert per season in future.
