South Lakes Acappella

As if living in the Lake District were not enough of an eye popper, gob-stopper and jaw dropper, we at South Lakes Acappella are lucky and blessed enough to meet every Monday and Thursday at Carver Church to unleash our hearts, inhibitions and souls to song, lead in harmony by our indomitable choir master, Superfella Acapella Jeff. Our repertoire is varied, challenging and cleverly taught so that both long-standing members and newcomers can feel rewarded and supported in reaching that sweet spot when our voices blend and embrace to produce a joyful sound in which we all take equal pride. Many studies have been done to research the benefits of singing and, more importantly, singing in a group. As we harmonise an eclectic array of tunes from the soft to the wild, from the crazy to the mild, we can vouch for many of the obvious scientific findings regarding our lungs, memory, circulation, etc but much more important are the emotional highs. Music fills us with all of the natural, happy, soothing, life-enhancing drugs you could wish for; endorphins, serotonin, oxytocin, dopamine. We come together, we sing our hearts out and we become a force for kindness, a band of brothers and sisters who, for those short hours, escape the strains of life. We sing because we would be lost without it. It completes us, relaxes us, warms us. Music is a vital element in life and when we share it, we are united in both passion and compassion. Music builds community and our South Lakes Acapella family is our home from home. We have a simple mission statement; feel good and do good.
