Paisley Philharmonic Choir
Paisley Philharmonic Choir was founded in January 1989. The Choir now has 48 members (pre Covid it had 69 members) and has this year presented three concerts. In addition, pre covid, the Choir formally did another three concerts for Charity and has raised nearly £100000 for a variety of charities. The Choir's ever expanding repertoire is extensive and includes carols, folk songs, spirituals, motets, madrigals, Scottish songs and choruses from Opera, operetta and musicals. Previously in May of each year the Choir performed a concert of some of the finest oratorios in the choral repertoire. Over the years the Choir has established a reputation as one of the finest and most versatile choirs in the West of Scotland. The Musical Director who founded the Choir was Mr Ian Anderson who is now retired. The current Musical Director is Mr. Derrick Morgan. Tim Lambourn is the Accompanist .Following Covid restrictions the Choir restarted in September 2022 and is of course actively seeking new members. The final concert in last years session took place in May 2023 A Spring Concert of Songs Ballads and more. The new session started with the The Christmas Concert of Carols Brass and Glory took place on 3rd December with special guests The Johnstone Band. The Spring concert concert took place in March 2024 entitled the Sprig of Thyme with a guest Soprano soloist and in May the Choir performed Gabriel Faure Requiem and selected movements form the Armed Man. Two guest Soloists also performed. The Choir will start the new session in September 2024 and it is envisaged that three concerts will take place and perhaps a Charity Concert.
