Inverness Symphony Orchestra

The Ness Sinfonia was founded in the autumn of 2016 by ophthalmologist and keen cellist Sue Lightman; a weekly community orchestra catering for players of all levels across the Highlands, with a base in the city of Inverness. In its early days the core of the group grew alongside its thriving cello choir, and the orchestra currently attracts a membership of some forty players attending each Saturday morning, sharing in a mutual love of orchestral music and preparing for their two principal annual concerts.

Conducted by Robin Versteeg and led by Margaret Cormack, the Ness Sinfonia has over the past few seasons performed a number of exciting themed programmes, incorporating wide ranging repertoire from classical titans like the Beethoven Violin Concerto and Mendelssohn Hebrides Overture, through British light orchestral lollipops by Vivian Ellis and Ronald Binge, to little-known gems such as Gordon Jacob’s Accordion Concerto.

The orchestra meets in Inverness on Saturdays, 10.15am-12:30pm with a tea-break halfway through. There are no auditions and new members are warmly welcomed.
