Chandos Chamber Choir

We are a friendly, accomplished chamber choir of 25-30 singers. The choir was founded in 1985, and
is named after Handel’s Chandos Anthems, which he wrote for his patron, the Duke of Chandos. We
perform a wide range of music, from the Renaissance to brand new works, and we often champion
works by women composers and lesser- known composers, as well as more established choral
repertoire. The choir often sings ‘a capella’ style, but we also perform larger scale works with
ensembles such as the Monteverdi Vespers with His Majestys Sagbutts & Cornetts.
We perform three concerts a year, plus additional events such as an annual Cathedral weekend or
trip away. In recent years, we have sung in the cathedrals of Winchester, Ely and Cork, and we have
a weekend in Dublin coming up in July.
James Davey has been the director of the choir since 2011. He has developed the quality of our
sound, our listening to each other and blending together, as well as introducing exciting new
repertoire. His upbeat and positive energy keeps us on track and enjoying rehearsals and concerts!
Would you like to sing with Chandos? We currently have vacancies in the soprano and alto sections,
and you are welcome to email enquiries@chandoschamberchoir.org to arrange to come along to a
rehearsal and audition afterwards. We rehearse on Tuesday evenings in the City of London- usually
without an accompanist, which is very good for our sight reading skills!
