Christmas with the EAC at St Mary’s Reigate

Whether you treasure the birth of the Christ child in your innermost heart and soul, or summon up the happiness of past childhood wonder; whether you dread the noise of the commercialism or simply look forward to heart-warming times with family or friends, one thing is certain: composers from every age have responded creatively to Christmas.

The EAC celebrates the fecundity of those creative minds on Saturday 7th December at 7.30pm in St Mary’s. We begin with plainsong and weave our way in chronological order through the styles and idioms with which composers have brought the Christmas story alive. It’s music full of the distinctiveness of its age and times, coming right up to date with music by living composers.

We will be singing Monteverdi, Sweelinck and Handel, Howells, Britten and Stopford, and much besides including “that” setting of the words “Gaudete, Christus est natus ex Maria Virgine” – trying hard not to sound too much like Steeleye Span.

Oh, and there’s MULLED WINE!
