Sing for Pleasure is celebrating their Diamond Jubilee

Sing for Pleasure continues to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee this year with a Schools Singing Day and a national conference.

Founded in 1964, Sing for Pleasure (SfP) is the largest provider of choral conductor training in the UK, with international renown for its rigorous programme that has seen thousands of aspiring and established conductors progress through its courses over six decades. The charity also commissions and publishes diverse choral works in a range of styles for children and adults. Leisure-time singers are also at the heart of SfP’s work, with the charity organising regular events for choirs and individual singers.

Their 60th anniversary (Diamond Jubilee) has been celebrated all throughout 2024, with various events showcasing music-making of the highest degree, like their annual summer school in August at Keele University, which included an anniversary dinner and the first performance of a newly commissioned work for choir and orchestra by Katy Lavinia Cooper.

The celebrations have not stopped yet, as SfP are preparing for a Schools Singing Day that will take place on Friday 22 November and the SfP National Conference the next day, on Saturday 23 November. Both these events will take place at the prestigious Stoller Hall at Chethams School of Music, Manchester.

The ‘Shaping the Choral Future’ conference is aimed at choral conductors and choir leaders at all stages of their careers, teachers and educators from early years to adult education, practitioners working in a health context, singers (choir members, professional singers etc.), policy makers and stakeholders. It will have something for everyone, including a line-up of workshop leaders, speakers and panellists made up of diverse and influential figures from across the arts sector, and topics such as health and social prescribing, EDI, community singing, arranging and repertoire.

'SfP’s conference is an opportunity for anyone interested in the transformative power of collective singing, including its role in education and community cohesion. We'll also be exploring the rapidly growing body of evidence around singing and wellbeing. Join us!' - Miles Wallis-Clarke, Chair of Trustees
