Britten Saint Nicolas
Dyson Three Songs of Praise
Elgar Serenade for Strings
MK Youth Choir, conducted by Craig McLeish:
Sarah Quartel This we Know and Craig McLeish A Gaelic Blessing
Our very first concert took place on the 23rd November 1974 at St Mary and St Giles, Stony Stratford. Conducted by Hilary Davan Wetton, the main piece was a performance of Britten’s Saint Nicolas. Our 50th birthday concert will be fifty years on - to the day! - with the same main piece, the same conductor, in the same venue.
Composed in 1948, Britten's work is a bold and dramatic telling of the story of the legendary Saint Nicolas, originally composed for the centenary of Lancing College in Sussex. The children's voices for our concert come Milton Keynes Youth Choir (founded by one of our former conductors), who will also be singing with their conductor Craig McLeish.
Add to this Dyson's uplifting Three Songs of Praise and Elgar's delightful Serenade for Strings, written at the beginning of his career played by Alina Orchsetra, and there is truly something for everyone.
Join us for this unforgettable night of music, memories and celebration as we look back on 50 years of high-quality music making in Milton Keynes.
