Wigan Choral Society is looking for an accompanist. Our well-established choral society of about 60 mixed voices enjoys a wide repertoire of mainly sacred and some secular music ranging from baroque to more contemporary works. We give three concerts a year, plus an annual ‘Come and Sing’ Saturday.
Further details about the choir and details of past and future performances can be seen on our Facebook page.
We rehearse in St Stephen’s Church, Balcarres Ave., Wigan WN1 3UR on Monday evenings from 7.30 – 9.30pm. We use an electric piano for rehearsals, and usually use the church organ for part or all of our concerts. We have sung at other churches and venues around the borough, and hope to do so again, but this is our regular base.
Remuneration for this post would be £40 for two hours. The rehearsal rate would be reviewed annually. Participation in concerts, workshops, etc. would attract a separate fee.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Attend all term time Monday evening rehearsals and accompany the chorus as directed by the Musical Director. Accompany concerts and workshops as agreed.
DESIRABLE
Ability to play the organ as well as the piano. Experience as an accompanist.
ACCOMPANIST SPECIFICATION
A skilled pianist and probably organist, a sensitive accompanist with good sight-reading and score-reading skills, willing to prepare works in advance, and a positive attitude to choral rehearsal technique and confidence building for the singers.
Able to work as part of a team, being willing to collaborate with the MD and committee and providing support to the choir.
