Helensburgh Orchestral Society is a friendly amateur orchestra with around 40 members who meet in Helensburgh on Monday evenings during the autumn and winter seasons.
Our long-standing Musical Director Robert Baxter has decided to step down, so we are looking for a new conductor to lead the orchestra in rehearsals from January 2022 in preparation for a concert on 26th March, ideally with a view to establishing a longer-term relationship.
Under Robert’s baton we have maintained a consistently high standard of performance over a wide-ranging classical repertoire. The Orchestra is keen to encourage younger players and to provide opportunities for promising early career soloists. Innovative projects have included a collaboration with Dance House, and first performances of new works. During lockdown we continued to meet online. Recently we streamed the premiere of Mosaic, a piece which we commissioned from Scottish composer Peter Longworth with support from Creative Scotland specifically to explore the characteristics of Zoom.
We are looking for a dynamic conductor with proven experience who will work closely and interactively with the players and the Committee to continue and enhance the future development of the orchestra. If you are interested, please send your cv and a supporting letter to the secretary,
