Baroque Splendour 2021

After over 20 months without singing to a live audience, on Saturday 6th November 2021 at 7:30pm, Epsom Choral Society will be performing their concert entitled “Baroque Splendour” which they were forced to cancel at 24 hours notice back in March 2020. This concert is a real treat for choir and audience alike – they will be singing in the stunning surroundings of St Martin’s Church - with an orchestra and 5 outstanding soloists.

For this concert, the audience will be immersed in a sumptuous selection of works by three Baroque masters. The evening will start with Bach’s Lobet den Herrn, followed by Pergolesi’s moving Stabat Mater and finishing with Handel’s Dixit Dominus, a dazzling showpiece for both singers and players alike.

The 5 soloists are Miranda Heldt and Eleanor Ross (sopranos), Beth Moxon (mezzo),  Joseph Doody (tenor) and Jon Stainsby (bass), all top-class young professionals. Also playing are the English Sinfonietta conducted by Epsom Choral Society’s Musical Director Julian Collings.

Epsom Choral Society, approaching its Centenary next year in 2022, kept going throughout the pandemic. They zoomed, rehearsed outside in a garden and even, thanks to the kindness of the Epsom & Ewell Borough Council, in a car park, where they live streamed a performance of Songs from the Shows in June.
